I love working with good people.

Look, here’s the thing. I love working with people who know we can do things better either for ourselves or each other. If that’s you, let’s keep this intro going…

Over the course of my life, I have been out there absorbing everything I could about psychology, storytelling, design and strategy. I am incredibly curious and love learning. (Fellow nerds unite!)

For more than 20 years I used all that info to power my socialpreneurial endeavors. And something HUGE became clear: you can’t run a business or break new ground without a team on your side.

I have been where you are. It can be very lonely. People don’t always “get” what you’re doing. They may even laugh or say things like “Good luck with that!” They may even try to push you in directions you’re not aiming for.

It’s not that they’re bad people. It’s that they can’t envision what you can.

Carrying that vision is exhausting. You could even start doubting yourself. I know I did. That was until I started hearing from people who understood my goal! They were the voice I needed to hear to keep me going. They were also the voice of guidance and wisdom that said, “I think you should talk to…” or “Here’s what NOT to waste your money on…” and “YES! That is fantastic, let me help!”

I had breakthrough after breakthrough. And those breakthroughs completely shifted my business for the best. I can now say that I am wholeheartedly happy with the changemakers I work with, the people whose paths I now cross, and the work that I get to do each day!

I couldn’t do it alone. Believe me, I tried. Maybe like you’re trying now. And here’s something else: You can’t do it without being resourced. As someone who grew up under-resourced, I know first-hand the importance of resources. That’s why my approach focuses on supporting you and your business—money matters. You can’t pour from an empty cup, emotionally or financially.

EBK. The first brand I ever built. It was a product brand that sold around the world, had celebrity customers, and lots of media attention.

— 2007
Classic Play. Originally created to support the EBK brand via content marketing, this online brand was so strong it became its own business. The site got over 10k organic visits a month without even updating it.

— 2009
South of Brooklyn. I wanted to break out of the family space, so I co-created a brand with my creative & life partner that celebrated artists and makers in smaller American towns and cities.

— 2014
Video Producer. The skills I learned while building the South of Brooklyn brand and the work I did for Classic Play spun into freelance work as a video producer alongside my creative and life partner, who is a photographer and filmmaker. We’ve been a tight team since 1992 and have always found ways to work together.

Sabbatical. Normally, people take sabbaticals from jobs. I took a sabbatical from building my own companies to get a job (writing and doing coms for large and small organizations).

Hey, Jen Cooper. A podcast brand. It was so successful, I attracted sponsors by the second season.

— 2017
My Dear America. This was my most ambitious “brand” to date. Inspired by travel shows that shared moments of connection, this series gave a new host for the traditional travel show: a Black woman on a journey across an increasingly divided U.S.

— 2019
2020. Enough said. Production of our series pilot came to a grinding halt, along with everything else.

Jennifer. I created an independent women’s digital media company that rebranded middle age as a time for radical self-acceptance and celebration. Products included a digital magazine, website, podcast, and events. One of those events was a personal brand building class for midlife reinvention. As you can see, I’m a big fan of personal and professional evolution.

The Thirty Second. I’m sharing every hard-won lesson and skill I’ve learned along the way so you can stop spinning your wheels and have your own brand that spans the timeline.

Hey, what’s the deal with 32?

Legend has it that the number 32 is associated with strong communication skills that make others want to follow you. It’s also associated with Mercury, the god who served as messenger for all the other gods up there on Olympus. Plus, it’s called the Number of Optimistic Leaders. And there’s nothing I love more than embedded symbolism & a great story so sticky, it transcends time.
